The article discusses the issues related to the decision of the US government to recognize the independence of Finland and establish diplomatic relations with the country in 1917-1920. The author analyzes the attempts of American diplomacy to use the recognition of independence as a tool to influence the nature of Finland’s domestic and foreign policy and identifies the factors that determined the policy of the US government in this matter.
