The article focuses on methodological distinction between historical knowledge and aesthetic experience. Analyzing modem historiography of the battle of Borodino the author reveals the relationship between aesthetic and historical representation of historical events and discusses the prospects of understanding aesthetic categories and images in the context of historical research.
