The problem of the Russian sociopolitical consciousness mythologization in the context of a modernization process

The correlation problem of the modernization process and traditional for the Russian consciousness archetypes and mythological constructs functioning is being discussed in the article. The central myth conceptually defined for the first time in the theory “Moscow is the Third Rome” has been shown to be the myth about Russia's being the “holy” land and it has been this myth that has mainly determined the Russian history development and its philosophical understanding. The main archetypes serving as a basis for such domestic “cultural myth” including its transformation into the idea of communist messianism have been stated. It has been pointed out that the myth impeachment has given rise to the question of the further Russian civilized development perspectives because the alternative constructive myth has not come into existence in the Russian society while the perception of the liberal-democratic ideology as an integral part of a modernization process is superficial and rational for the majority of the population. One reason for this is that the myths connected with the basic “cultural myth” but deprived of its original meaning and content including the “Tsar myth” and a millenarian (eschatological) mythology keep on actively functioning on the sociopolitical level. At the end it is concluded that the analyzed archetypes and mythological constructs typical of the modern domestic consciousness up-to-date play not constructive but destructive role. There may be two ways out of this situation: whether the existing Russian national consciousness archetypes be somehow substantively developed or the old myths be replaced by the new ones.
