The article is devoted to the problem of selecting talented children in athletics. The paper analyzes the time-delay-related problem of selecting children to preliminary training groups. The authors analyze a set of factors affecting the efficiency of track and field recruiting; discuss some prospective ways of improving the selection system at the initial stages of athlete’s long-term preparation.
