The problem of obesity in the practice of pediatricians

In this article, the author describes the modern approach to obesity in children, including its causes, main symptoms and signs, possible complications, methods of diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. Childhood obesity is one of the most serious public health challenges. Obese children are at increased risk of diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension, liver disorders, etc. Patients suffering from obesity since their childhood are particularly prone to early development of coronary heart disease, diabetes mellitus, myocardial infarction, etc. Prevention of childhood obesity requires integrated efforts of parents, pediatricians, and teachers. Fight against obesity should start with parents ' understanding of the importance of balanced diet, promotion of healthy eating behavior, setting a day regime with physical activity, especially outdoor.
