Problems and prospects of the formation of agglomerations on the territory of the Russian Federation

The article considers one of the directions of the strategic development of the Russian Federation until 2025 - the formation of urban agglomerations. In the Strategy, agglomerations were referred to as “zones of advanced economic growth”, which indicates the need to develop mechanisms for analyzing and managing the processes of development of agglomerations. The author identified the features of the development of urban agglomerations on the territory of Russia, analyzed the main parameters of development, their significance and prospects. In addition, the paper highlights the barriers that hinder the development and formation of urban agglomerations, and suggests ways to overcome them. After all, the emergence of urban agglomerations is an inevitable stage in the development of almost all large cities. This is especially true of the administrative centers of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation. In general, agglomeration processes are instruments of the state’s anti-crisis and modernization policy. And at present, the processes of the formation of urban agglomerations in Russia are associated both with a number of natural and objective prerequisites, and with the creation of special conditions for the formation of a single favorable environment for the functioning of such complex systems. That is why the analysis of problems and possible prospects for the development of urban agglomerations has acquired special scientific interest.
