The article considers the problems of modernization of system of higher professional education Krasnodar region and of Krasnodar in the 1985-1991 focuses on the analysis of scientific and pedagogical activity of the teaching staff of universities, new approaches to organization of educational process in conditions of "perestroika". The policy of "perestroika", which involved the universities of Krasnodar region, was filled with ideas of improving the system of higher professional schools. Exposed to modernization processes, the system of education management as the center, and in the field Emphasizes the role of public authorities and the educational institutions in solving problems of development of fundamental and applied science and the highly skilled personnel of the industrial and social spheres, as well as raise the cultural level of the population. The characteristic of the evolution of economic relations in the system of higher education. Identified and analyzed the mistakes made by state bodies and management of higher education institutions in the modernization of the educational process, funding scientific and educational projects, introduction of innovative forms of teaching, interaction and cooperation of higher education institutions with enterprises and organizations. It is concluded that the achievements and the account of the errors of the reform of the universities in the second half of the 80-ies - early 90-ies of XX century can and should serve as a basis for developing new standards, training programs and software systems, approaches to production practices, research activities of faculty and students.
