Problems of ensuring the safety of victims of crimes at the international level

The author analyzes the rights of the victim of crimes in international law and in the proceedings of the International Criminal Court . The article examines the legal concept of the victim, which now includes not only the victim, the victim’s family, other victims who tried to prevent the crime, but also organizations . Measures of protection and support of witnesses and victims of crimes are listed, difficulties with ensuring their safety are revealed . The participation of the victim as a witness of the crime and the participation of the victim as a victim in the criminal proceedings of the International Criminal Court is considered . The problems of realization of the right of victims of crimes to compensation are considered . Examples of trials of the International Criminal Court are given that did not satisfy the expectations of victims of crimes, since the trials lasted several years, not all victims were recognized as victims of the actions of criminals, and the perpetrators were recognized as poor . The author comes to the conclusion that it is necessary to further improve the international criminal legislation and reform the International Criminal Court . Proposals are being made to insure the life and health of victims and witnesses of crimes, to set reasonable deadlines for each stage of the trial and to compensate victims of crimes
