The development of the consumer market also determines the state of the economy as a whole, so the harmony and sustainability of consumer market development plays a big role in the economic system of the country. the coronavirus pandemic had a multidirectional impact on the consumer market at different stages of the pandemic. While the first wave of the pandemic in the spring of 2020 saw a surge in sales of medicines and basic foodstuffs due to panic among the population, there was a decline later due to self-isolation. The study assesses the state of the consumer market in Russia during the pandemic in comparison with the pre-pandemic period, identifies the current trends and their socio-economic consequences. It is revealed that despite the preservation of the trend towards growth in the value volume of the consumer market in 2020, the dynamics of retail trade indices indicate that against the background of the pandemic there has been a reduction in the physical volume of sales, and to the greatest extent - in the non-food products sector. As a result, in 2020 the retail trade turnover practically remained at the level of the previous year and amounted to 33.9 trillion rubles. Assessment of changes in consumer price indexes has shown that in 2020, prices rose by 5.8% compared to the previous year, with more dynamic growth for products (6.7%), than for non-food products (4.8%).
