The topic is particularly relevant and controversial, associated with the transformations of political regimes in the post-Soviet space and with the change in the ratio of authoritarianism and the presidency in the context of reformatting relations with the republics of the former USSR. Constant internal conflicts and civil wars in the former republics of the USSR make the permanent analysis of political metamorphoses of various power structures and leaders relevant. Authoritarian rulers, political elites and counter-elites are constantly creating new configurations of power that correspond within certain limits to both historical traditions and new political requirements of the modern era. The article examines the specifics of the formation of democratic political regimes and their adaptation to the traditionalist conditions in the post-Soviet countries from the standpoint of neo-institutionalism on the basis of a comparative analysis of political regimes. It is shown that the literature is dominated by the understanding of modern authoritarian regimes, developing under the influence of the personal presidential factor, realizing the power mission of a strong state, contributing to the accelerated implementation of development programs. The development of authoritarianism is connected to a certain extent with the historical traditions of the autocracy of the Russian Empire and communist autocracy, which to a certain extent can be traced in modern society. An element of novelty is the consideration of literature and some events of 2018-2022 in the context of the problem of transformation of political regimes. Attention is drawn to the fact that in the conditions of the hybrid war of the West and the East, reactionary aggressive nationalist modernization of the regimes of power has developed in some republics. The author notes the political regularity of the emergence of authoritarian-modernization political regimes with a significant role of the personality of national leaders - heads of state.West and the East, reactionary aggressive nationalist modernization is possible
