The problem of training personnel in information technology

The transition to the digital economy is associated with the global processes of informatization and the increasing role of information technologies. One of the most important resources for the IT-industry development is the availability of qualified personnel. The main source of their replenishment is the education system. The issue of training IT-specialists deserves special attention, as in the context of changing technologies; educational establishments do not succeed to prepare personnel for the IT-industry in a timely and high-quality manner. The purpose of the study is to identify the problems of training personnel in the field of information technology. Based on statistical data, the researcher analyzes the number of secondary vocational and higher education establishments, as well as the number of their graduates, and shows a decrease in the number of graduates, despite the growth in the number of educational establishments. The number of graduates from secondary vocational and higher education establishments in IT-related areas in Russia and the Vologda Oblast was analyzed, using data from the Ministry of Enlightenment of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. The author reveals that today the education system does not fully meet the challenges of the digital economy and trains an insufficient number of IT-specialists. In the final part of the article, the main problems are highlighted in the system of training IT-personnel at the federal and regional levels. The article outlines the main directions for their solution, as well as determines the prospects for research. The scientific novelty of the work is to substantiate and systematize the personnel security problems in the IT-industry that arise in the education system and hinder the recruitment of IT-industry personnel on the basis of which the paper proposes a number of measures to solve them. The materials of the research can be used by researchers, postgraduates and students who are engaged in the digital economy development, issues related to the staffing of this industry.
