Problems of development western and eastern borderland of the Russian Federation

The article deals with socio-economic problems in the eastern and western borderland of the Russian Federation. Researches in the Pskov region and Jewish autonomous region demonstrate a change in some socio-economic indicators. The author has revealed both similarities and differences between western and eastern regions of the Russian Federation. For example, the reduction of population is characteristic of both areas, but these processes in them are caused by different factors. Industrial production in the western region is aimed at the development of high-tech industries, while in the eastern region - of the extractive industries.
