The problems of recreational development of Solvychegodsk

Solvychegodsk is a city located in the south of the Arkhangelsk Region, on the right bank of the Vychegda River. Founded in the 15th century, it is included in the list of historical settlements of Russia. Monuments of architecture, preserved to this day, are of federal importance. Since 1923 in Solvychegodsk the sanatorium with the same name operates, the curative factors of which are mineral waters and mud. Despite valuable recreational resources, the city is not a well-known recreational center. But for the population of the Arkhangelsk region and neighboring regions, Solvychegodsk could become one of the important destinations for weekend tourism. The city was included in the project of creating a tourist and recreational cluster "Kotlas - Solvychegodsk" under the federal special program "Development of inbound and domestic tourism in the Russian Federation". The development of tourism in a small city, especially having a disadvantageous geographical position, faces many problems. In the article, to identify obstacles to the recreational development of Solvychegodsk, it is compared with the city of Myshkin in the Yaroslavl Region, which has similar features in terms of population, recreational resources and geographical microposition, but is a relatively successful recreational center. Based on the characteristics of the recreational spaces of these cities, the main difficulties in the formation of Solvychegodsk as a recreational center have been revealed. The main activities planned under the program of creating a tourist and recreational cluster, the core of which is Solvychegodsk, have been analyzed, and the main problems that hamper its development are identified.
