Problems of selection of the fast-ripening varieties in Gossypium hirsutum L

The author considers the main trends in cotton selection: the isolation of sources of economically important determinants in plants, the integration of valuable determinants to one genotype, the hybridisation of fast-ripening forms, the ecologo-genetic screening of genofond, the increase of genetic diversity of populations. For an increase of the fibre quality the author proposes to use the method of induced mutagenesis, but for an resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses - the methods of biotechnology. During the production of elite seeds the conditions and the location of sowing with obligatory control of fibre quality play an important role.
