Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) significantly contributes to the development of the national economy of the Russian Federation. In the context of current geopolitical tensions, the Central Bank of Russia has vastly reduced the extent of detail of statistical information on Russian FDI, which has led to the problem of identifying relevant data necessary for conducting a comprehensive scientific research. The Article describes the origin of the changes that have occurred, as well as presents methods for searching and verifying up-to-date statistical information on Russian FDI that are available in the present conjuncture. The original sources of information and providers of input data for calculations are Russian, foreign and international institutions, such as the central banks of Russian Federation and foreign states, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Holistic scientific research of Foreign Direct Investment, involving the analysis of incoming and outgoing FDI of Russia in terms of its structure, geographical orientation and dynamics, makes it possible to identify factors of strategic development of the economy of the Russian Federation. The implementation of the methods presented in the Article, in turn, will increase the relevance of such research.
