The article is devoted to the process of administrative-territorial structuring of Ulyanovsk district of Middle Volga region. The Middle Volga region was established in 1928, in place of the former Penza, Ulyanovsk, Samara and Orenburg provinces. The authors also pay attention to the processes of elaboration of the inner territorial boundaries and the administrative structure of the Middle Volga region.
