The study of the essence of the process of capital accumulation in relation to specific socio-historical forms of production remains today one of the key issues in the development of economic science. Analysis of the problem revealed the following. Historically, the essence of capital should be considered as a process based on the development of productive forces that are in a contradictory unity with production relations and reflect the contradictory relationship between production and consumption, namely, in their prerequisites, conditions, processes of implementation, results and forms of manifestation. The current state of the economy at the global and national levels testifies to the diversity of national models that reflect the internal nature of the accumulation process as a constantly accumulating amount of alienated labor. Considering the problem from the point of view of the main economic schools allows substantiating the author’s approach to its solution with a high degree of objectivity. The study revealed that the accumulation of capital, obeying natural-historical processes and economic laws of the formation, the core of which is the method of production, is a limiter of the main goal of the community, generated by the contradiction between labor and capital, including the contradiction between the social nature of labor and the private capitalist method of appropriation.
