Food security as a regional agricultural development indicator

The article is devoted to the study of modern trends in ensuring the food security of the Luhansk People’s Republic as an indicator to determine the degree of development of agriculture. Held analysis of the current state of food security in the region for 2015-2022 in the context of the volumes and trends in the production of the main types of agricultural and food products and the level of their consumption by the population of the region as a whole and per 1 person in comparison with the recommended nutritional standards. The indices of sufficiency of consumption of basic food products, as well as indicators of the ratio of production and consumption of agricultural products and food processing products, were calculated, which made it possible to conclude that the level of development of agricultural production in the region is insufficient in the presence of favorable natural and climatic conditions and sufficient land and resource potential. It has been established that for a weighted, nutrient-balanced intake, it is especially important to intensify the development of cattle breeding (cattle fattening), pig breeding and dairy cattle breeding. The restoration of livestock industries will not only contribute to a better environmentally friendly supply of agro-food products of our own production, but will also be one of the important factors in the development of the region’s economy as a whole.
