In Japan the scientific and public attention to the Russian Revolution of 1917 (grandiose event of the 20th century) is intensifying. Among the books that were published in Japan in 2017 to commemorate the revolution of 1917 is the five-volume book series "The Russian Revolution and the Century of the USSR", that occupies a special place in its volume. The first volume is called "From the World War to the Revolution". Then in each month the next volume of the series was published: Vol. 2 "Stalinism as a Civilization"; Vol. 3 "The Cold War and Peaceful Coexistence"; Vol. 4 "Transformation of Human and Culture"; Vol. 5 "The Revolution and the Nationalities are Crossing the Border". The first three volumes are dedicated to each period of the Russian history (Vol. 1 - 1900-1928, Vol. 2 - 1929-1953, Vol. 3 - 1953-2017). The Vol. 4 examines the multifaceted aspects of culture: literature, music, cinema, science, etc. - in different periods of the USSR, and the Vol. 5 - the revolution in various regions of the Russian Empire and the formation of the Soviet Union as the heir to the Romanov empire. In this scientific article the author briefly acquaints readers with the main characteristics of the entire project, and then - in detail considers the contents of the Vol. 1 of the book series, because it is mainly devoted to the Russian revolution of 1917. The author of the scientific article notes that the community of Japanese specialists in the history of the Russian Revolution and the USSR tries to present to readers the versatility of their subject of interdisciplinary (historical, cultural, and conceptual) research.
