Professional self-determination of students of vocational educational organizations: research results

An important task of secondary vocational education is to create conditions for professional self-determination of the individual. The authors notice the low motivation for choosing a profession among young people, the low readiness and ability to consciously choose their professional path. The authors search for effective solutions to this problem. The process of professional self-determination begins from the stage of emergence and formation of professional intentions and continues at the stage of purposeful preparation for the chosen professional activity. The implementation of these stages is impossible without the implementation of career guidance by both educational organizations and employers. Professional self-determination does not end with the choice of a profession, it is carried out throughout the entire professional life. This process is associated with a step-by-step decision-making, which allows to establish a balance between the preferences, interests of the individual and the requirements of work activity, the needs of society. The article reveals the content of the key concepts “professional self-determination”, “professional development”, “professional intentions”. The results of the study of self-determination of students conducted at the South Ural State College on the basis of diagnostic methods are presented: to determine professional intentions (L. Yovaishi); to identify types of professional orientation (D. Holland); for the study of needs (I. D. Ladanov); types of career orientations (by E. Shein); identification of terminal and instrumental values according (to M. Rokeach). The authors suggest ways to increase the level of professional self-determination of students of professional educational organizations, forms of support for professional self-determination that affect the construction of a future career.
