Professor Alexander Antonovich Savich - researcher of the archive of the Solovetsky monastery (on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the scholar’s death)

The article is devoted to the study of the life and scientific and pedagogical activity of Alexander Antonovich Savich (1890-1957), a graduate of St. Petersburg Theological Academy (1914), a well-known Russian historian, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor. The paper studies the main periods of his life and creative biography. Special attention is paid to the period of his work in the Urals, at Perm State University (1924-1931). The research is based on the documents of the personal file of Professor A. A. Savich, saved in the State Archive of the Perm Region. The article highlights the role of Professor A. A. Savich in the preservation and study of the documents of the archive of the Solovetsky Monastery of the 16th-18th centuries, saved during the Civil War by Professor of Perm University, future academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences B. D. Grekov. The author analyzes the most important works of A. A. Savich, dedicated to the monastic colonization of the Russian North and the development of the patrimonial economy of the Solovetsky Monastery, written on the documentary basis of the Solovetsky archive. The study sheds light on the circumstances of the life and scientific work of representatives of the Orthodox professorship in the conditions of the growing Soviet regime in the 1920s and 40s.
