Professional standards: introduction into scientific libraries; prospects and consequences

The problems connected with introduction of professional standards are analyzed. The procedure of their development and approval, their content, introduction and difference from Standard Wage-Rates and Skills Reference Books and the purpose of their introduction are shown. The method of introduction of professional standards into scientific organization and library is studied. It is shown in which cases the introduction of the standard is mandatory and what does not suit scientific libraries in the project of "Expert in the field of library and information activity" professional standard.
