Prominent Russian scientists note the importance of prognostic function of theory of state and law. In recent years, representatives of various branches of science have published papers with forecasts for the future, including those that describe development scenarios that include alternatives to the expected course of events. Based on the established regularities, trends and technocratic achievements of society, futurology studies the degree of probability of the implementation of various options for a possible and desired future. Although the problem of any multi-aspect and long-term forecast for the future is the low probability of its implementation, studies of the concepts of future state and forecasts for future state are promising directions for the development of theory of state and law. They can be combined into one sphere of knowledge called legal futurology, which as a direction of science is divided into futurology of state and futurology of law.
