This study evaluated the expression of the CLIC-1 protein by immunohistochemical method in gestational trophoblastic disease, as well as its diagnostic value in predicting the malignant process. The study included 20 patients with gestational trophoblastic disease. There were higher levels of CLIC-1 immunoreactivity in trophoblastic cells in patients with gestational trophoblastic neoplasia compared with patients with hydatidiform mole. The level of CLIC-1 activity increases in malignantly transformed choriocarcinoma cells and is expressed in the nucleus and cytoplasm of trophoblastic cells. Thus, CLIC-1 can serve as a prognostic marker that allows detecting malignant transformation at an early stage.
