The influence of modern institutional, including legislative, changes on the ratio of supply and demand in the labor market is investigated. The revision of the retirement age boundaries as the main factor affecting this ratio is analyzed. An attempt was made to fill the current deficit of methodologically sound forecasts of the new situation on the labor market. On the basis of the methodology of the balance of labor resources, prospective calculations of the population, labor force (economically active population), employed (functioning jobs) and unemployed are made and interpreted. Additional (palliative) measures to reduce the social acuteness of the consequences of pension reform (legislation on criminal liability for discrimination against persons of pre-retirement age) and their possible social and economic consequences are considered.
