Chinese civilization has a long history; along with which customs related to marriage have developed and continue to develop to this day. The wedding ritual is a part of traditional Chinese culture. However, many details, as well as the socio-cultural functions of the wedding ceremony, remain outside the scope of the ongoing research. The article analyzes in detail the origin of the traditional Chinese wedding ceremony, which developed during the reign of the Zhou Dynasty, and examines its socio-cultural significance for the Chinese people. It is argued that the study of the origins of ancient traditional marriage rituals and customs of China, as well as their cultural connotations, is necessary for understanding the specifics of that time, identifying changes in the roles of men and women in the family and society. In addition, it is emphasized that the acquaintance of young people with the wedding traditions of their ancestors will help to popularize the system of values of marriage among young people and form a correct understanding of relations between men and women.
