The origin of the bailiff institution in Russia

The article deals with the origin of the bailiff institution in Old Rus in X-XII centuries and connection of this post emergence with the financial and economic relations. Studying the birchbark manuscripts found in Staraya Russa, the author examines the initial functions of the adolescent administrant (bailiff) as a creditor assistant and the reason of their transformation into the sphere of state activity.
