The works of Mikhail Sholokhov “And quiet flows the Don”, “Virgin soil upturned”, “They fought for their Country”, “Destiny of a man” as a series

The author attempted to consider the works of Mikhail Sholokhov “And Quiet Flows the Don”, “Virgin Soil Upturned”, “They Fought for Their Country”, “Destiny of a Man” as a series and follow the dynamics in the interpretation of lifestyles, value systems by the writer. At first, the characters and story lines are compared, and then this idea is verified through the correlation between the book version of characters and their film interpretation made during the life of M. Sholokhov from 1959 to 1975. The analysis is carried out by means of the structuralist method used by A.S. Sushkov, a historian, the author of the hypothesis about the unity of the texts by M. Sholokhov. The structuralist approach involves studying the identity of constructing text discourses without an emphasis on their value. The possibility to apply the cultural approach to the analysis of literary texts is justified in the works of P. Bourdieu. The film adaptation of writings by M. Sholokhov is digested based on Yu. Lotman’s approach, who regarded film narrative as the communication act including addresser → picture → addressee.
