Manifestation of geomagnetic disturbances in midlatitude upper atmosphere glow

The study considers a response of night-time midlatitude upper atmosphere glow to geomagnetic disturbances and geomagnetic storms. Data of observation of atmospheric emissions of 557.7 and 630 nm atomic oxygen are used in analysis. The data were recorded in the East Siberia region (Irkutsk, 52° N, 103° E) in 1997-2009. It was noted that during geomagnetic storms the correlated disturbances of variations of 557.7 and 630 nm emissions were observed. We discuss peculiarities of the observed emission disturbances, their connection with magnetospheric-ionospheric structures and their possible sources.
