Prostitution and need in Moscow in the late XIX - early XX century

Prostitution has been an integral part of any industrial center for many years. Governments had to regulate this phenomenon in order to prevent its destructive impact on society. Besides prostitution contributed to the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, and it was also closely intertwined with crime. The article analyzes the state of the prostitution at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries (during the period of legalization) in Moscow. Special emphasis is placed on the prostitution as a result of extreme need, in its most unpleasant manifestations. To sum up there are conclusions about the success of the regulatory system.
