Spatial economic systems: methodology and theoretical approaches to research

This article focuses on building a consistent construction of methodological approaches to the study of economic space and spatial economic systems. Synthesis of new economic geography, the New Localities methodology, the system-dynamic approach and the synergetic approach in the context of nonequilibrium systems is proposed in the article. This synthesis is based on the analysis of works on the content and characteristics of spatial economic systems. This synthesis made it possible to determine the totality of characteristics of spatial economic systems operation and development: length, density, complementarity, connectivity, dynamism, convergence/divergence, flexibility and persistence. The key characteristic of economic space, according to the authors, is connectedness. According to the authors, the key characteristic of the economic space is connectivity. Connectivity is a territorial, structural and historical intersectionality of the development and transformation of the particular area characteristics that affect its parameters and organization. The consistent construction of methodological approaches (proposed in the article) expands the possibilities of using the spatial approach in the strategic development and management of the national economy.
