The article discusses the process of forming the sociology of mass communications as an independent scientific discipline. The stages of the formation of communicative are given. We consider the key ideas that influenced the direction of scientific research. The authors' opinions on the specifics of understanding the phenomenon of mass communications in different periods of his research are cited.
