To increase the commercializability and reduce the risks of unforeseen changes in the IT project, it is necessary to clearly formulate requirements for the software product. This article discusses four methods of gathering information: a focus group, a personal interview, a survey and an expert opinion. It contains their brief description, advantages, disadvantages and comparative analysis. The considered research methods are shown on the example of creating software that predicts the chance of admission to higher educational institutions of Krasnoyarsk based on the future entrant's results of the Unified State Exam.
