Family mental health: scientific and historical context and current research of Tomsk scientists

The article provides an overview and analysis of the main scientific research and achievements of the Institute of Mental Health from 1981 to 2021, devoted to various aspects of family mental health. The significance of the influence of the family on the personality, development and health, its complexity, versatility and problematicity predetermine a large number of different approaches to its study, such as analysis of the influence of clinical and genealogical factors on the predisposition and occurrence of mental developmental disorders and disorders of mental health of family members of different age; the definition of family characteristics of patients with various mental illnesses, taking into account gender and age factors, where studies of women, including pregnant women, children and adolescents, and the elderly are distinguished separately. The problems of family functioning at the present stage of the development of the society in complex socio-demographic, psychological, ecological and changing social conditions of the environment determine the relevance of an integrated systematic approach to solving mental health problems of all family members. Objective: based on the materials of scientific research conducted by employees of Mental Health Research Institute, to systematize the main periods and present the findings of researh on clinical, psychological, socio-cultural and other features of mental health of families; medical and social aspects of the quality of life and adaptation in families of patients with mental disorders; preventive technologies of family rehabilitation in psychiatry and addictology. Materials and Methods. Research object: scientific papers and monographs, PhD and MD theses defended at the specialized dissertation council of Mental Health Research Institute, and medical technologies completed and published from 1981 to 2021. The general scientific historical-genetic method was applied: analysis of sources on the research problem, generalization, comparison, systematization of the results was obtained.
