The article presents the results of the ascertaining stage of an empirical study dedicated to the psychological characteristics of adolescents raised in a boarding school. The main goal was to diagnose the level and structure of anxiety and self-esteem as interconnected phenomena. Using a set of psychodiagnostic methods (STAI, M. Rosenberg's scale, Dembo-Rubinstein's technique, "Self-portrait" projective test), high levels of trait anxiety and low, disharmonious self-esteem were identified in the study group. The correlation analysis confirmed a statistically significant inverse relationship between the level of anxiety and self-esteem indicators. The obtained data comprehensively characterize the psychological issues of this group of adolescents and serve as an empirical basis for the development and implementation of a targeted integrative psychocorrectional program using methods of art therapy and guided affective imagery.
