On the basis of the study of psychotraumatic factors in the period of imprisonment of convicted women, the author makes the following conclusions. The results of the study of past life and the direct relationship to isolation from society showed that before the condemnation of women, more often than men faced successive traumatic events. Questionnaires and interviews of prisoners conducted in England and Wales showed that women in the process of serving their sentences experience stress, which affects the psycho-emotional state: anxiety due to the inability to fully trust anyone, the need for privacy, loss of contact with family and friends, awareness of the meaninglessness of their own lives, etc. Convicted women during the period of prison stress perceive isolation as lack of social life; disappointment about the inability to develop; an awareness that there is no purpose in life. Of course, mental health, from which stems the ability to restore emotional and mental balance is important for the self-realization of the individual and allows to overcome pain, frustration and sadness. Structural and social factors have a significant positive impact on the improvement of psychological well-being: the quality of the conditions of detention in accordance with the psychophysiological characteristics of women; the availability of work in a correctional institution; maintaining links with family, relatives and friends.
