Psyshology of convicts

The purpose of the article is to study the psychological characteristics of convicts and identify the main problems that negatively affect their psyche during the period of serving a sentence in isolation and after it. A methodological approach was used in the preparation of the article, methods of observation, conversation, sociometry, and the principles of general, social, and legal psychology were used in the research process. The conclusion is made about the insufficiently effective work of social and psychological services of the Russian penitentiary system due to the lack of a competent system of re-socialization of convicts in Russia, according to which the work of the psychological service to prepare for the return of a person to a free society should begin from the first days of serving a sentence, in this connection, the article suggests appropriate measures to improve the efficiency of psychological and social services with convicts and their re-socialization, thanks to which the psychological component among convicts will improve, the level of recidivism will decrease.
