Psychosocial aspects of wearing shapewear: a perspective through the lens of identity and fashion

The article is dedicated to the topic of psychosocial aspects of wearing shapewear and examines the impact of such garments on personal identity, self-expression, and social perception in the context of contemporary fashion and beauty culture. Special attention is given to the application of the latest textile materials and innovative design solutions, including compression elements that enhance the functionality and comfort of shapewear. The aim of the study is to analyze the effects of shapewear on the psychosocial and physiological aspects of users' lives. The research methodology included surveys and interviews with 30 female volunteers, as well as laboratory studies using Doppler ultrasound scanners, electromyography, and infrared thermography. The participants wore shapewear for 1.5 months. The results showed that wearing shapewear improves blood circulation by 20%, reduces muscle fatigue by 10%, and increases comfort levels by 28.6%. Significant improvements in self-esteem and confidence were noted by 90% and 87% of the participants, respectively. The positive impact on social perception and interaction was also confirmed. The main findings of the study highlight the significant positive effects of shapewear on the physiological and psychosocial condition of users, confirming its importance in the modern wardrobe. The article also includes an analysis of patents for various types of shapewear and discusses possible directions for further research and improvements in the design and functionality of such garments.
