One of the main tasks of historical science is to publish documents. At the Institute of Language, Literature and History, Komi Branch, USSR Academy of Sciences, work in this direction began in 1958, i.e. before the official establishment of the Institute, and continues to the present day. Employees of the Institute published a number of important documents of the XV–XX centuries, both on the history of the Komi region – the Komi Republic, and on the history of Russia as a whole. These include: scribal and census books and other documents of population registration; documents that show the development of commodity-money relations and trade; documents on the history of the Russian Orthodox Church; documents on the development of secondary special education in the RSFSR and others. In order to optimize the process of publishing documents, in 2014 a Laboratory of Archeography and Publication of documents on the history of the European North of Russia was created. This has significantly increased the number of published documents. The paper outlines the prospects for further work in this direction.
