The way to the total dictatorship of Russian federal bar association

Purpose: To evaluate the proposals of the Russian Federal Bar Association on the discussion of amendments to the Code of Professional Ethics of an Advocate (revised 2021). Methodology: The hermeneutic, systemic and comparative legal methods were used, as well as the method of participatory observation. Results: In Russia, there is a further transition from a democratic to a totalitarian regime of management of the Russian advocacy. This is manifested in the ever-increasing expansion of the scope of power of the advocates’ nomenclature, as well as in the redistribution of power from regional bar associations to the Federal Bar. Novelty/originality/value: The paper is written on the basis of actual empirical material, and has not only theoretical but also applied value. The research carried out using the participatory observation method (discussion of the paper in public spheres) influenced the legal reality in the studied area.
