The founder of Gelug and the author of the treatise “Lamrim Chenmo” Je Tsongkhapa systematized and summarized the development of Buddhist thought in India. He collected the ideas and teachings that the Tibetans adopted by the 15 th century and that seemed to him central to Buddhism as a whole. The Gelug school was widely spread among the Mongols, Buryats, Kalmyks, Tuvans, and the understanding of Buddhism set forth by Tsongkhapa in the lamrim remains dominant today. The article considers the initial stage of disciple’s path in the terms of Lamrim, which is referred to in the text as “a person of modest motive”. We have analyzed the key concepts of the teaching and methods that shape the worldview of a Buddhist practitioner. Special attention is paid to the influence of Tsongkhapa’s Lamrim on the dissemination and adaptation of Buddhist values among the Buryats. The work by Lama E.-Kh. Galshiev is a vivid example of how Buddhist values could incorporate into the daily practice of the Buryat people and shape their worldview.
