Distribution of ponds in the basin of the Stepnoy Zai river

The object of the study is the basin of the Stepnoy Zai river, more than 40% of the annual flow of which is regulated by ponds and small reservoirs. The need to regulate river flow is due to the need for year-round water supply to a large number of water users of the basin. Ponds, regulating the natural river flow, contribute to additional water supply of the territory, the value of which depends not so much on the number of reservoirs, but on the size. The main number of ponds in the basin has small areas of the water mirror, with the exception of three ponds-reservoirs (Zainskoye, Karabashskoye and Almetyevskoye). The study determined the exact location of ponds, their number and the total area of the water mirror within the river network and municipal areas of the basin.
