The article deals with an integral study of one of early Makanin’s stories. The choice of the material is based on the origin of the text's narrative structure that has never been however analyzed in detail. The author’s first attention applies to 3 aspects: subject one, narrative one, semantic one. The subject’s specificity of events and author’s narration strategies also examined. The author reveals the subject channels which complex interaction gives rise to the semantic “intrigue”. Departing from widespread reproaches against Makanin in his evaluation of the modern person, the author of the article shows in some polemic way the complexity and nonlinearity of the writer’s axiological intensions, by the example of a text given. Just the analysis of the narration structure of the tale let us make conclusion that a hopelessly sceptic view to a person is realized just as one of the components of the axiological specter which is presented in the tale under analysis. The analysis and the observations proceed let us to make conclusion that “The story about the story” by Makanin has an open semantic construction, based on the probabilistic world conception, and it means an active reader's role in the process of the meaning construction.
