The article reveals the pedagogical possibilities of illustrations to fairy tales as a means of forming spatial representations in children of middle preschool age. Considering with children any pictures, illustrations in the book, it is necessary to teach them to comprehend the position of each subject and its relationship with other subjects. It allows to reveal the semantic relations connecting objects among themselves. Children need to explain that the main means of expression in book graphics is drawing - spatial characteristics of the image, transmitted through the image of appearance: shape, structure, posture, movement, gesture, facial expressions, revealing the inner essence, the character of the hero, his emotional state through a variety of expressive points, lines, strokes.
