The article considers the role of competency model in an organization and the main fields of its application. The authors introduce the distinction between Russian concepts "kompetentsiya" and "kompetentnost". The article substantiates the actuality of scientific approach to the use of competency model in the practice of modern companies. The paper also presents the main requirements for the œmpetency model and identifies the specific features which are important in building a œmpetency model. The article focuses on the description of the œmpetency model development for the Nizhny Novgorod network that provides food services, on the example of the "administrator" position. The authors have chosen the design method of the competency model "The personnel technologies center - the 21st century" as methodological basis. The basic methods of data collection were the analysis of documents, interviews and expert assessment. In the paper the authors describe four stages of the research: collection and the analysis of documents of the company, formation of a competency model for the "administrator" position, verification of the developed competency model...
