This article is devoted to the problems of collaboration between Great Britain and the USA within nuclear weapon cooperation in the second half of the 20th century. The author seeks to analyze the impact of ambiguous “special” Anglo-American relationship on the introduction of the in-house nuclear weapon in the UK. The article describes the most historically significant phases of creating weapons of the new generation. It reviews the incentives of Great Britain to develop its own atomic bomb without the direct support of the USA as well. The particular attention is paid to the fact that despite the expectations of the country’s political leaders, the emergence of mass destruction weapons has not allowed Great Britain to become a key player in the international arena on a par with the USA.
