Development of the Arctic as a new geopolitical challenge for Russia and the world

The article describes the features of the relationship of the Russian Federation with other countries in the Arctic region during the Cold War and modern times. Were also found factors that determine the peculiarity of relations between states in the region. The purpose of the article is to determine the role of the Russian Federation in the development of the Arctic zone and to identify the main reference points of interaction between the Arctic countries in resolving disputable situations. The main result of the article is the generalization of the functions of international organizations and institutions, and the conclusion of the study is the definition of international law as the only instrument for the successful coordination of political actors in the Arctic region.
