Evolution of digital theatre in the COVID era

The article analyzes the evolution of digital theater in Russia and other countries. The author states the personal opinion of this ambiguous phenomenon, offers its definition, designates key features, gives a classification of digital theater's types based on the criterion of using different types of digital technology (video technology, VR- and AR-technologies, and others), and argues the position through the latest examples of performances from theatrical life in the era of the coronavirus. It is concluded that digital theater has great potential to become a new form in theater and is currently experiencing its new incarnation.
