Development of Dagestan painting in the XXth century (on the example of the artist G.P. Konopatskaya)

The article examines the activity and creative heritage of the famous Dagestani artist G.P. Konopatskaya in the context of the development of main directions of Dagestani painting of the XXth century. With the involvement of archival material introduced into scientific circulation for the first time from the funds of the Central State Archive of the Republic of Dagestan, the features of Konopatskaya′s work and her contribution to the development of modern Dagestani painting are revealed. The key directions of the artist′s creative biography, which influenced the formation of the storylines of her canvases, which became a reflection of the era, are analyzed. It is emphasized that Konopatskaya in her works showed a particular historical way of life of bearers of Dagestan culture, life and everyday life of ordinary mountaineers, which was groundbreaking for the Dagestani art of the period, and the unique socio-cultural communication environment created by the artist became the epicenter of creative life in the region.The unique style of the artist and the trends traced in her work are clearly manifested in the works of Dagestani artists of the XXIst century, which allows us to speak about the great contribution made by G.P. Konopatskaya to the development of painting and the entire culture of Dagestan of the XXth century.
