Development and management of the rare metal industry in the Russian Federation

Rare metal ores are natural mineral formations containing rare elements in the form of independent minerals or impurities dispersed in ore minerals in quantities sufficient for their cost-effective industrial extraction. The demand for rare earth metals and products based on them in the world is growing and will continue to increase. The rare earth industry in Russia, having significant potential, has lost its position, and today only exports concentrate and imports REM-containing products. To restore the previous positions, a Strategy for the development of the RM and REM industries until 2035 has been developed. among the main tasks of which is an increase in domestic consumption to 113.1 tons in 2024. The paper presents a brief and generalized marketing analysis of the rare earth metals market on the example of scandium, reflects the current need of the rare earth industry associated with its functioning. The important distinctive features of the management of metallurgical enterprises and development prospects are highlighted. The relevance and novelty of the article is connected with the identification of ways to manage the rare earth industry and the determination of sales prospects for small Russian manufacturers of materials based on rare metals.
